Belgian born noted mathematician Pierre Deligne won the prestigious Abel math prize 2013 of cash worth $1 Million for his work in algebraic geometry and "transformative impact on number theory, representation theory and related fields."

The Abel Mathematics award committee of Norway announced that the 68 year old mathematics genius Deligne has established relations between different areas of mathematics leading to many crucial discoveries in mathematics.

Professor Deligne is is professor emeritus at the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He arrived in Princeton from the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques at Bures-sur-Yvette near Paris, where he was appointed its youngest ever permanent member in 1970. The Honorary Member of London Mathematical Society and Moscow Mathematical Society, Deligne, has written 100s of papers on mathematics.
