HSC marks may account to ISEET and NEET Entrance Exams

The ISSET i.e. Indian Science Engineering Entrance Test and NEET i.e. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test each respectively for engineering and medical UG Courses admission in Indian colleges may be implemented from next academic year 2013 – 14.
Both the exams may offer 40% weightage towards HSC marks of a candidate; this means better admission chances to those who score better in HSC examination. The ISEET will replace IIT JEE and AIEEE entrance exam.

The Central Government has already suggested for a 40:60 ratio for HSC marks (in math, physics and chemistry) and the ISEET scores. However, this ratio decision for state funded colleges shall be set by respective state government.

However, the IITs are against this decision and minister MHRD is expected to hold a meeting with IITs soon.

As a personal opinion, I would say, the government committee has taken best decision so student focus equally on school board syllabus instead of giving more than required importance to entrance exam preparation and neglecting academic exams. However, IITs are very much right as use of unfair means is highly practiced in class 10 and 12 board exams. We all living in India know this fact. Also, the level of two exams differ highly, entrance exam asks more questions and hence covers almost all topics, while academic exams asks less questions and not capable in covering all topics from syllabus. Scoring high in academic exam is much easier than scoring average or above average marks in entrance exam.

So what you say in this regard, should HSC weightage be given to ISEET and NEET merit or no, please leave your comment below. In my view it’s a NO.
