Private Institutes in Mumbai Can Conduct separate Entrance Exam

The privately unaided institutions were allowed by Bombay High Court to conduct Common Entrance Test CET for year 2011 – 12 for admission into Post Graduate Business Management program. The division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice SJ Vazifdar stayed the AICTE circular for year 2011 – 12 which provides arrangements for single CET for admission in all B-Schools.

"It is not possible to have a single CET with same pattern and eligibility as there are several disciplines and categories," said Counsel Aspi Chinoy, appearing for the petitioner said.

The petition argues that the inefficiency of government in properly conducting admission for MBA programs left nearly 10000 seats vacant in year 2010; the state administration was not capable in handling the CET

"We want to regulate the admission process and offer more options in colleges to the students”, argues government counsel.
