Padma award for Kurup, Mahapatra

New Delhi: Malayalam Poet ONV Kurup and Oriya Poet Sitakant Mahapatra receive Padma Awards in the field of literature and education this year. These awards are given during Republic Day celebration by H.E. the President of Indian Republic Of. The duo was bestowed with Padma Vibhushan the second highest civilian awards.

Kurup own the Jnanpith Award, he is also the recipient of the National Award for best lyricist and the Padma Shri. Mahapatra own honours like the Sahitya Akademi Award and Jnanpith Award. He was conferred the Padma Bhushan in 2002.

The Padma Bhushan awardees also included political columnist and biographer Thayil Jacob Sony George, Bengali poet and critic Sankha Ghosh and Ramdas Madhava Pai, president of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

The Padma Shri award winners included poet Mahim Bora, Sanskrit academician and researcher Pullella Srirama Chandrudu, and Urdu poet Balraj Komal along with 17 others.

According to MSN News Website; the Padma Awardee list has 128 names -- 13 Padma Vibhushans, 31 Padma Bhushans and 84 Padma Shri awards. There are 31 women in the list.
