ReGreen Successfully Completes Massive Campus-Wide Lighting & Energy Upgrade at Santa Monica College

Los Angeles-based company, ReGreen, has successfully completed a campus-wide lighting and energy upgrade at Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California and its satellite campuses. This project will save the college over $250,000 annually in utility expenses, reduce lighting-related energy consumption by 40%, and increase safety across the campus. The project also features the installation of controllable LED luminaires in the campus Gym. The use of intelligent LED technology combined with an advance lighting control system is the first of its kind to be installed on a project of this type.

Awarded this contract, ReGreen was responsible for specifying and installing the most efficient, long-life, and up-to-date technologies, replacing existing outdated and inefficient light sources. As such, the campus’s upper parking structures were fitted with 50% LED dimming technology, while the lighting at all other campus parking lots were upgraded to new (non-dimming) LED luminaires for safety. New generation T8 lamps and LED recessed lights were also installed throughout the Santa Monica campus, as were occupancy sensors.

“We believe in offering sustainable solutions that not only provide our clients with great energy and financial savings, but also increased quality of life and productivity,” said Chad Clark, Director of Operations and Design at ReGreen.

As a result of the major upgrades carried out by ReGreen, the college’s CO2 output will be reduced by over 1,204 metric tons per year, which is equivalent to removing 253 gas vehicles from our roads. The upgrades will also serve to increase campus safety, thanks to the installation of high output luminaires with whiter light, and enhance the overall campus experience through the use of cutting-edge technology like the intelligent lighting in the Gym.

In addition to utility savings of over $250,000, the Santa Monica College project qualified for a utility rebate of over $400,000, thus lowering its simple payback period to just 3 years. “Implementing sustainable solutions is smart business,” adds Clark “Now, Santa Monica College has met its lighting needs in an efficient and cost-effective manner for many years to come.”

DU CATE may be discontinued from 2013

The University of Delhi (DU) may discontinue Common Aptitude Test for English (CATE) for UG English Admission from this year. Now admission into DU’s English Hons.  program will be offered on the basis of merit in class 12th examination. It is to be noted that DU is busy in implementing new 4 Under Graduate degree programs comparable with international standards. Though there are fair chances that the test may re-begin in later years for admission.

IIT Delhi heads to Haryana

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) will soon get its extension center in Sonipat, Haryana. The Haryana Government has promised to allot 50 acres of land in Rajiv Gandhi Education City Sonipat to establish IIT Delhi Extension Center. The Rajiv Gandhi Education City Project has got 2000 acre of land in Haryana’s Sonipat district. This is the first project of its kind in Haryana housing many numbers of education institutes for higher education. It is to be noted that the IIT Delhi has second highest numbers of students but its campus has smallest area.

CBSE will offer fitness courses this session

A new course in Fitness and Gym Operation will make part of CBSE curriculum from coming academic session 2012-13. The course will serve the purpose to pursue a career in sports and related areas. To begin the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will introduce this program in 50 schools for class XI onwards. The theory portion will cover 60 marks and practical portion 40 marks.
