MIT opens Cancer Research Center after Mr Koch

Cambridge; Massachusetts- The world no 1 institution of technological research Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) opened a new center of cancer research named after its donor “David H. Delhi University on Recruiting Spree

Delhi University (DU) is planning to appoint 2860 gurus for providing guru gyan in various colleges. At present university is short in teaching staff. "Since the number of students has increased due to OBC reservation, colleges needed permanent teachers to address the increased class strength. Also, with the university implementing the semester system in humanities and commerce courses this year, the workload of teachers will increase. So, the sanction of these permanent positions from the government has been timely," said vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh. The recruitment process for new faculty members may start in June 2011.

IGNOU’s new website for students and partners

IGNOU New Delhi has launched new website for students and Partner Institutions (PIs). The portal jointly developed by the Advanced Centre for Informatics and Innovative Learning and the International Division of the university in the Electronic and Media Production Centre. "From distance learning, we have come to distributed learning. The portal has a list of programmes currently on offer with all details; support services for registration and evaluation; a query management system and a space for interaction in the form of community blogs and discussion forums," the official said. "There is also a list of PIs that students can access by clicking on the relevant links," the official added.

IGNOU offers study programs for international students through 67 PIs based in different countries. At present there are more than 40 000 foreign students registered for different courses. According to one UNESCO report, IGNOU is the world’s largest university.

NID celebrates Typography Day 2011

Ahmedabad: The National Institute of Design NID Ahmedabad opens Typography 2011 event. In the opening day of the event, the main attraction of the even was Assistant Professor Uday Kumar of IIT Guwahati the designer of new Rupee symbol for Indian Rupee Notes and Coins. The coveted designer provided details about how he conceptualizes the Rupee symbol design and its various features.

During the Coordinator of the graphic design department at NID Tarundeep Girdher said, "It is now time to redraw the symbol with different typefaces so that it could be used along with different fonts. Typography teachers at different colleges will be working on it. The faculty members at NID and Industrial Design Centre (IDC) of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay have agreed to start forums to take this initiative forward."

Speakers from Hong Kong, Turkey, Peru, Sri Lanka, Germany, and England Etc are making their presence for Typography Fest at NID Ahmedabad. On Saturday, the event will host 11 different workshops and mark its conclusion.

West Bengal, one of the major participants for making changes in two houses of Indian Parliament is set for assembly elections from April 18 to May 10 2011. At the same time examinations for different grades and admission test mainly for under graduate courses are also scheduled. The WBJEE 2011: West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam is scheduled on April 17 2011, just a day prior to 1st phase of voting in 54 assembly areas. Considering to various factors which may be hurdle for exam takers during elections, WBJEE Board is considering rescheduling WBJEE 2011; however, there is no final decision yet. About 1lakh 30 thousand students will appear for WBJEE 2011.

The University of Calcutta has already rescheduled (Part III) BA/ BSc/ B Com Honours examination from April 19 to May May 18 2011. The Part 1 and the part II examination of the university will also be held after the elections.

New GRE added with new resources

GRE- Graduate Record Examination shall change its present format on coming August 1, 2011. Now its query of all GRE test takers, how should they prepare for it and like what new GRE will look. To assist test takers the GRE administering authority has launched two add on service online.

Facebook users now can access a page titled I’m taking the GRE revised General Test’. Test takers can access www.takethegre.com get free preparation material and software.

"Our goal was to make the site informative and relevant to best meet their needs," Lawler-Sudell said. "With more than 700,000 GRE tests taken each year around the world, it's a very large and far-reaching community."

10 Universities to give weightage to marks in qualifying exam

New Delhi: Ten central universities in India will give weightage to marks in qualifying examination for admission in under graduate and post graduate programs along with merit in University Admission Test. The Qualifying examination will hold 30% weightage and entrance exam 70%. The universities which will follow this matrix for admission are central universities based in Kashmir, Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. The exam will be in June this year.

It is to be noted that the IITs are also planning to give weightage to marks in class 12th examination for admission into under graduate programs, till now admissions are made on the basis of JEE however only those candidates can apply for JEE who have secured minimum 60% marks in qualifying examination. Relaxation available for reserved category aspirants.

Uniraj Exam begins March 3, 2011

Jaipur (Rajasthan): The University of Rajasthan (Uniraj) examinations started on Thursday march 3, 2011 for nearly 7.25 lakh students enrolled in 866 university colleges in 7 districts. The university is conducting examination through 366 exam centers. P L Regar, examination controller, said, "We have made elaborate arrangement to conduct the final year exam in order to avoid any untoward incidents during exams." To boost final preparation students are buying One week series, the booksellers based in Chora Rashta are making good money selling One Week series; the guide books which answers important questions based on Rajasthan University curricula.

Lucknow annual exams to begin on March 16

Lucknow: The Lucknow University will commence annual examination for BA part 1 2 and 3 on march 16. B.Com part 1 Examination will begin on March 24 and B.Co, 2 year on March 23. The examination for B.Com part 3 will begin on March 16. The annual examination for B.Sc part 1 2 and 3 will begin on March 16.

BPEd (both regular and exempted) will start on April 29, and continue till May 5. The examinations for PG diploma in Social Duties and Human Rights, PG Diploma in Management of NGO's, PG Diploma in Counselling and Communication, PG Diploma in HIV/AIDS and Family Health Education, PG Diploma in Human Development will start on March 11.

CBSE begins board exams from Tuesday

The Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE New Delhi commenced examination for Class 10th and Class 12 this Tuesday. 1,061,566 students will take examination for class 10th while 769,929 students will write class 12th examination in different streams. A total of 454,131 boys and 315,798 girls will be appear in Class 12 board exams, while the Class 10 exam would be taken by 632,726 boys and 428,840 girls.
